This was written by a 17 year old girl while staring out the window at a private Boston psychiatric hospital. She saw/imagined/hallucinated this wolf while in a dark place
always staring
and I stare back
unable to lose his eyes
the wolf with the yellow eyes
always waiting
and I wait too
like an animal’s prey
but myself
the wolf with the yellow eyes
always appearing at night
from an unknown place
to watch me
with those sparking yellow eyes
just waiting
for the right time
to strike
that time may be now
but,
we will continue
until
the wolf with the yellow eyes
says
it is time
Wow! Thank you for putting that dark place and the imagery of the wolf down with yellow eyes into words and sharing those words with us.

thank you for taking the time to leave a comment. I appreciate it. this poem was written over 30 years ago. The person who wrote it (me) has seen many dark things, but is thriving today. The sun shines bright right now. If it ever does get dark again, I will have this blog to remind me of brighter days.

I, too, have been on a long journey. 18 years old and suicidal. 51 with a diagnosis of bipolar disorder, but thriving and living meaningfully, with purpose and love in my life. What more could I ask for?

Yes, I so understand the long journey. the poem Restless Waters and my first about me says a lot about that journey. Today my journey involves helping others see that they too can be okay. It took me a long time to learn that and wish I could spare others half of what I went through. But then again, I would not be who I am today had I not experienced all I did.

Quite beautiful photography, Emwell. I listened to “Spirit in the wind.” a good one! I also liked this about the wolf, one of two creatures I consider as my totem. the other is the crow.
